Best Aluminum Road Bike Reviews 2018

Being an avid biker, I can see how many different variations are present for bikes. However, some old-school bikers would argue that there are only two kinds of bikes. These are those made of steel, and those that look like bikes but are not. What those old-school bikers do not know is that great bikers like Lance Armstrong and his famous Trek Madone bike is made of carbon and aluminum, not steel. It is immensely difficult to find professional bikers that still use steel bikes nowadays.

There are four main materials used on bikes nowadays, and these are steel, magnesium, aluminum and carbon. A YouTube video explains the differences in just a little over four minutes.  Steel is the cheapest but heaviest. Bikes made of carbon are very light and immensely sturdy, but will give you a run for your money. I find those made of aluminum as the perfect balance of cost and benefit.

The best aluminum road bike may make you the new Lance Armstrong of modern times. There are quite a number of aluminum bikes available in the market today, and each manufacturer keeps improving and designing their bicycle products. Some bikes have interesting frame designs, and other bike companies have innovated and perfected the materials and composition of their bikes that some aluminum bikes are both sturdier and cheaper than steel bikes!

Buying Guide

Aluminum has become the most used material for bikes. The say that steel is for the street, carbon is for track, and aluminum is for both. Due to both its weight, price and strength, beginners and veterans can appreciate the versatility of aluminum. However, since there is a lot of love for these kinds of bikes, finding the best aluminum wheelset road bike can be a big drain in your time. To help you, we will discuss what makes one bicycle the best aluminum road bike by listing down what we think a great bike should be. The factors you should consider should be their weight, their durability, the feeling of stiffness, cost and other benefits.

  • The weight should be light. Aluminum is used for bike frames primarily because of their weight. Steel bikes are around two to three times heavier compared to aluminum ones. Aluminum bikes should be easy to carry and ride.
  • The bike should be durable. An aluminum bike, while light, should still be able to handle not only the weight of the cyclist, but also the structural integrity of the bike by withstanding the terrain, no matter how smooth or rough the surface is. Normally, aluminum bikes can last to 10 years, but some can last even more.
  • The stiffness of a bike, both when the cyclist maneuver, and the structure of the bike. Stiffness can make your ride, especially when you ride on a hilly road or a bumpy terrain, very uncomfortable. You see, an aluminum bike is stiff due to the thickness of their tubes. This is both a blessing and a curse; this makes aluminum bikes perfect for speeding though urban roads, but can be a bite of a pain in the behind, literally and figuratively, on mountains.
  • The price should be worth it. This is a no brainer.
  • By other benefits, we mean freebies. Some have helmets in addition to the bikes.  Others have water bottles and other sports paraphernalia.

With that list out of the way, finding the bike best suited for you should be a bit easier to do. Here are the top 5 best aluminum road bikes that is currently offered in the market.
